Memorial Hospital for Children has the only Level IIIb NICU in southern Colorado. This means we have the expertise, technology and environment to provide comprehensive care to extremely high-risk newborn infants, as well as to those babies with complex or critical illnesses.

A team of neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners use innovative, proven techniques to care for critically ill newborns 24 hours a day. The care we provide is in a developmentally supportive environment where over 130 professionals, including NRP certified nursing staff, respiratory, physical and occupational therapists, care for our smallest patients.

The 60-plus bed unit is designed to provide medical, surgical and nursing care to babies born prematurely - as early as twenty-three weeks gestation - and to critically ill newborns with heart, lung or other congenital conditions. Diagnostic services, such as electrocardiograms (EKGs) for heart testing, electroencephalography (EEG) for measuring electrical brain activity, x-ray, lab testing and ultrasounds are performed at the bedside.
