Offers Patients Faster Diagnosis and Continuity of Care

Podcast Listen: Podcast interview with nurse navigator, Brenda Disparti (.mp3/6:27)

Memorial's Lung Nodule Clinic was created to provide follow up and offer coordinated, comprehensive care to patients who are diagnosed with lung cancer.

Timely Diagnosis is Key

We know that if cancer is suspected, time seems to stand still for you and your loved ones. Our goal at the Lung Nodule Clinic is to diagnose the cancer and design a treatment plan as quickly as possible.

The average length of time from your consultation at the clinic to a diagnosis is 15 days. The national average to diagnose lung cancer ranges from 86 to 120 days. That means critical treatment time lost.

Memorial’s Continuity of Care

At most hospitals, recently diagnosed lung cancer patients must begin a dizzying and exhausting round of appointments with specialists to piece a treatment plan together.

Not at Memorial. Patients at the Lung Nodule Clinic who are found to have lung cancer benefit from our multidisciplinary team approach to lung cancer care. Our thoracic oncology team meets regularly to discuss patients' conditions. They review each patient's case and determine the best course of treatment including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. This team approach means that you benefit from the knowledge and expertise of several specialists without having to make appointments with each of them.

The team includes:

  • Pulmonologist
  • Radiologist
  • Pathologist
  • Medical oncologist
  • Thoracic surgeon
  • Radiation oncologist
  • Social worker
  • Oncology certified registered nurse
  • Cancer registrar
